How to Apply Discounts to an Open Invoice

This tutorial will explore how to add a patient discount to line items on an open invoice.

Select an Invoice

In the Patients tab, look to "Invoices" toggle in the information box near the bottom of the general summary. Click the number of any existing invoice that you would like to work with:

Review Billable Items, Codes, and Payers

Before collecting payment, be sure to review all applicable billing fields to ensure that codes, quantities, prices, and responsible payers are correct. Discounts can only be applied to fields that have a positive balance owed. To apply a discount to any line item, click the visible total in the "Discount" column:

The Discount menu will open from the right-hand side of the screen. Select any reason from the drop-down menu. Discount reasons can be created in the "Settings" tab of your Vision(X) site, and can be formatted to automatically populate values for related fields, like discount type and amount. If these fields do not automatically populate values based on the discount reason selected, you can manually input them instead. When finished, click "Save":

The invoice balances are now updated to reflect the applied discount:
